A silvery blog begins.....

You need a blog, said everybody. And having been told this about 8 million times I finally decided I perhaps should see about doing one, just in case anyone out there, having ploughed their way through absolutely every delicacy, delight and deviancy the internet has to offer, and casting their eye around for just one more new cyber offering, finds this and thinks YES, this is what I need to know, what actually IS going on behind the scenes at The Silvery?!

The actual Silvery!

If you are still with me then it seems there actually is a need for this important public broadcasting service, although now I have to fathom what aspects will make for entertaining and informative reading. It is this very process that has put me off starting a blog for so long, but I am hoping that taking the leap of faith of actually starting will unlock the answers for me.

If you have landed on this page I think there is a chance you are somebody who appreciates lovely handmade things and particularly lovely silver jewellery. You are drawn to things that are a bit out of the ordinary and genuinely unique. You probably have some understanding of the blood, sweat, tears and Jaffa cakes that go into producing hand made products and value them all the more because of it. And possibly like me you are someone who can lose hours on the internet reading about other small business, particularly those of an artisanal nature.

If it s stays still long enough, it will probably get covered in silver....

So, it is my intention to reveal over the forthcoming posts something of how and why I make the things I do, answer some of the questions I most often get asked, share some of the many and varied aspects of running a small craft business in the UK and the thing I think I am going to enjoy the most is sharing some of the commissions that I do. Not only are they some of the visually loveliest things I make, because my customers seem to have amazing ‘eye’s’ for things that will make wonderful pieces, but because more often than not there is a lovely personal story or sentiment behind the piece that I hope will not only move or amuse you or warm your heart the way they do for me, but also to inspire you to perhaps send in something of your own….

If you have hung in this far, thank you so much, this is going to hopefully be an evolving project that will improve over time so if you can bare it, please do pop back again soon! I will leave you for now with some photos of a lovely recent commission. The lady who bought in the shells had collected them on the beach at Camber Sands which is a favourite place of a friend of hers who is now living in the States. Now her friend can carry a piece of Camber Sands with her wherever she goes as well as being always reminded of what a wonderful, thoughtful friend she has waiting over here for her next visit.
